Laverne Cox was one of the first stars to hit the champagne carpet at the 95th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday. Wearing a custom gown by Vera Wang, the actress put her own spin on one of the biggest runway trends of 2023: color blocking.

The top bodice of Cox’s dress was draped in teal fabric, which spread out into a flowing train. The turquoise shade emulated one of Pantone’s picks for their spring 2023 fashion color trends report – a color they’ve dubbed Skylight. Cox’s gown also included a black floor-length skirt, which was matched by statement fingerless gloves that reached just above Cox’s elbow.
The actress, who named her look “Ethereal Bladerunner”, was styled by Christina Joy Pacelli. Pacelli has curated all of Cox’s looks this awards season, styling the actress for the Golden Globes and Grammys in 2023.

The actress’ blonde ombre locks were in a neat chignon, thanks to Cox Emmy-winning hairstylist Kiah Wright. For makeup, Cox chose a natural, glowy look courtesy of Deja Smith.

After starring in some of TV’s most watched shows over the years, Cox recently became the host of her own show, “If We’re Being Honest with Laverne Cox”. E! The talk show sees Cox interview some of today’s biggest talents, including Sherrill Lee Ralph and Angelica Ross. “If We’re Being Honest” is nominated for a GLAAD Media Award in 2023.
The annual Oscars celebrates the film, the cinematography and the actors who brought the characters to life. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the show this year. Performances have included Rihanna and Lady Gaga, and presenters have included Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Janelle Monáe and others. For the 95th annual ceremony, the red carpet was changed to a champagne color due to an aesthetic choice to enhance photography during the arrivals. The champagne carpet is the first to turn red since the 33rd Oscars in 1961.
